Rebuilding a Leaning Mailbox Column on an Existing Paver Driveway
Mailbox columns on Pinellas paver drives lean when the footer is too small, the soil under the post is organic, or a storm surge loosens the first course around the base. The field then opens a crescent joint that weeds and ants move into.
Repair sequence
We lift the pavers in a neat radius around the column, expose the footer, and decide whether to pour a new isolated pad or sister a block core. The column is plumbed, the first paver course is recut to a consistent joint, and the edge is pinned so the field does not creep away from the masonry.
If the column is also an address or light post, we sleeve the conduit before the field goes back down. Matching the soldier course or border band around a new footprint is what makes the repair disappear.
When it is a full rebuild
Rotten timber wraps, rusted steel boxes, and columns sitting on sand with no footer get rebuilt, not shimmed. Shimming a lean only moves the crack six months down the drive.
