Setting a New Screen-Room Footer Through an Existing Patio
A lot of Pinellas owners add a screen room years after the patio went in. The cage contractor wants a continuous footer. The paver field is still good. Tearing the whole patio out to pour a beam is the expensive default. It is not always required.
PaverForge Hardscapes opens a neat slot through the existing field, sets the footer or post footings, isolates the new concrete from the paver bedding, and closes the stone back so the patio still drains and the cage posts do not lift a row of pavers in year two.
Isolation first
The new footer is a different structure than a sand-set paver field. We leave a bond-breaker at the beam so thermal movement and a little settlement do not telegraph as a ridge through the patio. Posts that land in the field get sleeves and weeps at the kick plate so splash does not sit against the screen frame.
We photograph the open slot, the rebar or post layout, and the closed field for the permit packet when the city wants to see how the cage meets the deck.
When the field cannot be saved
If the patio already ponds at the slider, or the edge has walked, a footer job is the moment to re-pitch that bay — not to lock a bad grade under a new cage. We say that before anyone cuts.
