Setting an In-Ground Basketball Hoop Footing Through a Finished Pinellas Driveway
A portable hoop on a Pinellas driveway walks across the field and scuffs soldier courses. An in-ground hoop is the cleaner long-term choice, but only if the footing is isolated from the paver system. PaverForge Hardscapes opens a finished drive, sets the manufacturer's cage, and closes the field so the rest of the driveway still drains and still lifts later.
Do not bury the post in bedding sand
Bedding sand and crushed-concrete base are not a footing. Wind load and play load will rock the post, pump the joints, and leave a cone of settlement. We excavate to the spec depth, form a concrete footing separate from the paver base, and keep a bond-break so the slab can move without telegraphing cracks into the field.
Close-up that still looks like one driveway
Units come up in a rectangle large enough to work, get stacked by course, and go back on clean bedding with the original pattern. We leave a small isolation joint at the pole so future service does not require tearing half the drive. If the hoop sits near the throat, we check that storm flow still reaches the street or the trench drain.
Confirm HOA rules and setback from the sidewalk before digging
Call in locates; many Pinellas drives hide irrigation and lighting conduit
Keep vehicles off the new footing until the concrete has cured to spec
