Setting an Outdoor Cold-Plunge Isolation Pad in Pinellas
Why a cold-plunge should not sit on the patio field
A filled cold-plunge or ice-bath tub is a concentrated point load plus constant splash. Set it on the same sand-set patio that serves the grill and you get a dish under the feet, polymeric washout at the skirt, and a trip edge where the tub gets dragged for service. PaverForge Hardscapes builds a small isolated pad with its own compacted base, a trapped splash drain when the lot allows it, and a bond-breaker at the patio so the two fields can move separately.
Pinellas salt air and afternoon storms make the plumbing side just as important as the pavers. We leave a sleeve for the chiller line, keep the GFCI pedestal off the walking surface, and pitch the pad so overflow does not run under the screen-cage door. This is not a portable swim-spa pad and not a hot-tub surround. It is sized for a dedicated plunge vessel and the cart that services it.
What we set with the pad
Compacted base isolated from the adjacent patio and pool beam
Optional trapped drain or splash basin for melt and overflow
Chiller-line and power sleeves under the field before joint sand
A soldier-course or contrast band so the pad reads as a planned landing, not a leftover square
