Skyway Marina District Hardscapes: South Bay Driveways and Walks
The Skyway Marina District sits on the south end of St. Petersburg, between the bay, the approach to the Sunshine Skyway, and a mix of older bungalows and newer waterfront builds. From St. Pete Beach, PaverForge Hardscapes treats it as a regular South Pinellas job — not a special trip and not a one-size pattern book.
Lots here drain toward the bay, sit close to the water table, and often share a driveway with a boat or RV. A pretty paver photo does not survive that. The field has to pitch, the base has to hold when the water table rises, and the edge has to lock so the first storm does not walk the soldier course into the street.
What a Skyway Marina lot actually asks for
Short, steep aprons where the city sidewalk or right-of-way meets a raised garage.
Side-yard access instead of a wide front staging pad.
Salt air on bay-facing walks and pool decks.
Boat-trailer turning that chews a thin base in the first season.
We walk the lot before we quote. That walk is how we decide whether the existing field can be re-leveled, whether a section has to come out, and whether a catch basin belongs at the low corner instead of hoping the new pitch will invent a place for the water to go.
Driveways, walks, and small waterfront courts
Most Skyway Marina work is a driveway plus a walk to the front door, sometimes a small courtyard on the bay side. Herringbone on the drive still earns its keep here because trailer tires try to shove a running-bond field sideways. Walks can run a quieter pattern as long as the joint and the edge match the drive so the repair later does not look like two contractors.
On waterfront courts we keep the field permeable enough to breathe and high enough that a king-tide puddle does not sit against the house slab. That is a grade problem first. Stone choice comes second.
How we stage a South Bay job
Street parking is tight and HOA or city rules can limit dumpsters. We plan cuts, base delivery, and haul-off so the neighbor’s apron stays clean. If the only path is a side yard, that is in the quote — not a surprise on day two.
