Vina del Mar Hardscapes on St. Pete Beach
Vina del Mar is a small pocket on the Gulf side of St. Pete Beach. Lots are short, streets are narrow, and the water table sits close to the surface. A driveway that looks fine on a mainland street will settle here if the base is thin or the pitch dumps stormwater toward the slab.
What the lot actually needs
We measure the apron to the city approach, the side-yard staging path, and the high-water mark after a rain. Then we excavate to a depth that leaves compacted aggregate under the field, not a couple of inches of sand over native soil. Barrier-island sand does not lock a paver field by itself.
Compacted aggregate base, not a sand-only bed
Pitch away from the house and toward a legal outfall
A rigid edge so the first course does not walk into the street
Staging that does not block the only neighbor access
Salt, heat, and color
Gulf-side color fades faster than a mainland driveway. We specify concrete pavers with a through-body color, not a painted face, and we talk through sealing only after the field has settled and joints are locked. A seal on a dirty or wet field just traps the problem.
