Welch Causeway Approach Lots in Indian Rocks Beach and Harbor Bluffs
The Welch Causeway (SR 688) is the short bridge that ties Harbor Bluffs to Indian Rocks Beach. Approach lots see salt air, wind-driven rain, and weekend traffic that treats a driveway like a turnaround. PaverForge Hardscapes builds those fields so the first tropical system does not pump bedding sand into the gutter.
What changes on a causeway-approach lot
The water table sits high. A deep excavation that works in inland Largo can hit saturated sand here by mid-afternoon. We keep the section thin enough to drain, wrap the base in geotextile on sugar sand, and pitch the field to a catch basin or the street instead of hoping the subgrade will swallow a three-inch cell.
Salt-tolerant edge restraint instead of raw steel that blooms rust at the joint.
Darker soldier courses at the apron so tire scuffs do not read from the causeway.
Permeable strips only where the HOA and the county storm rules allow them.
Reserve pallets stored off the spray zone so replacement units do not bleach unevenly.
Permits and the right-of-way apron
The last five feet before the pavement often sits in county or city right-of-way. We photograph the existing apron, confirm whether a ribbon curb or a plastic edge is allowed, and keep the sidewalk cross-slope walkable. That packet is what an inspector wants to see, not a mood board.
