Westwinds Neighborhood Driveways in Largo
Westwinds sits on the Largo side of mid-Pinellas, close enough to Ulmerton that some lots take a work truck or a boat trailer in addition to daily cars. That load is why we treat a Westwinds driveway as an 80mm interlocking field on a compacted crushed-concrete base, not a patio section that happens to meet the street.
Typical failure we see here is edge roll. Plastic restraint that was spiked into loose sand walks after a few wet seasons, the border course opens, and joint sand pumps. We pin a commercial-grade restraint into the compacted base, not the bedding, and we use a darker soldier course so the edge still reads after tire scuffs.
How a Westwinds job is sequenced
Utility locate, then undercut to competent soil or a geotextile-stabilized section.
Base in lifts with a plate compactor — no single dump-and-hope layer.
Screeded bedding, field laid, border locked, then polymeric or open-graded joints by spec.
First-week watering or cure window depending on the joint product and the forecast.
If the lot also needs a trailer pad or a side-yard trash pad, we design those as separate fields with their own pitch so wash-down water does not run under the garage door. Westwinds lots are deep enough that a short extra pad is often the cleaner answer than widening the whole drive.
