5th Avenue South St. Pete Paver Walks
5th Avenue South sits in the Old Southeast blocks of St. Petersburg, just south of downtown, where bungalows and rebuilt two-stories share oak shade and a city sidewalk. PaverForge Hardscapes installs and rebuilds interlocking paver walks and short drives here when the slab has cracked, the apron no longer meets the sidewalk, or roots have heaved a sand-set field.
What a 5th Avenue South walk has to do
Lots are often narrow, and the side yard is the only path for material. We stage pavers and base so the street is not blocked longer than the pour-and-plate window. The walk has to land flush at the sidewalk, keep water off the porch, and leave a straight soldier course that still reads after the first wet season.
Base, roots, and the city sidewalk
Sugar sand and old fill under these lots will pump if the base is thin. We excavate to a stable cut, place geotextile where the subgrade is soft, and compact crushed base in lifts before bedding sand. Where a live oak is inside the drip line of the walk, we do not pretend a thin overlay will hold. The field is cut back, the base is rebuilt, and edge restraint is pinned so the border does not kick out.
Apron and garage threshold
If the drive also meets a garage, the last course has to slope away from the threshold, not into it. A city sidewalk grind-and-raise can leave the apron high or low. We reset that joint instead of feathering sand over a lip that will break.
