Building a Bike-Wash Pad With a Trapped Drain in Pinellas
A rinse pad that is not the driveway
Pinellas Trail, beach-town, and family lots all rinse bikes on the drive. That sends grit and chain lube into paver joints and leaves a slick film at the garage. PaverForge Hardscapes builds a small bike-wash pad with a trapped drain so rinse water leaves the field instead of soaking the bedding sand. The pad is a wash station, not a second driveway.
Trap, pitch, and splash
We pitch the pad to a heel-proof drain or a small catch with a trap so insects and odor do not come back up. The outlet ties to an approved receptor — a yard drain, a gravel dry well where allowed, or an existing trapped line — not a raw dump onto the neighbor. Edges are raised enough to keep the spray on the pad. If the hose bib is on the house wall, we add a splash basin so the shutoff does not rot the first course.
Grit, HOA, and winter guests
Beach sand and trail lime both cut polymeric joints. A dedicated pad keeps that grit in a basket you can empty instead of in the driveway. HOAs that ban washing cars in the street still allow a contained residential rinse pad when it drains on the lot. We match the house pavers and keep the pad out of the required side-yard setback.
