Brick vs Concrete Pavers in Pinellas County
Homeowners in Pinellas ask for brick when they mean a small module with a warm color. That can be clay brick or a concrete paver made to look like brick. They do not behave the same in salt, heat, and driveway traffic. PaverForge Hardscapes specifies the unit from the lot, not from a mood board.
What each unit actually is
Clay brick is fired earth. Color runs through the body, so a chip is less ugly. Concrete pavers are molded and often color-coated or through-colored. They come in 60mm and 80mm, more shapes, and more slip textures for pool decks.
Driveways: 80mm concrete is the honest default under cars on Pinellas fill.
Walks and patios: 60mm concrete or clay brick can both work on a compacted base.
Pool decks: textured concrete or porcelain often stays cooler than dark clay.
Historic streets: clay brick matches older St. Pete walks when the city allows it.
Heat, salt, and fade
Dark clay on a west-facing beach deck will burn feet in August. Light concrete or porcelain is the cooler lid. Salt does not dissolve a good unit overnight, but a cheap surface coat on concrete will chalk. We would rather sell a through-colored concrete or a real clay than a painted face that peels in two seasons.
The base still wins
Neither clay nor concrete saves a dumped-sand job. Pinellas sand and a high water table punish thin sections. Choose the unit for color and thickness, then spend the rest of the budget on excavation, lifts, and a real edge.
