Building a Grill and Smoker Pad With Heat Setback From a Pinellas House Wall
A grill or offset smoker does not belong on a thin patio field that was never meant to take 500-degree radiant heat against stucco. PaverForge Hardscapes builds a dedicated pad with a compacted crushed-concrete base, pinned edge, and a setback from the house wall that keeps siding, paint, and weep screed out of the heat plume.
Why a separate pad beats a furniture-only patio
Grease, ash, and caster loads concentrate on four points. A floating furniture pad settles into a dish. We thicken the section under the appliance footprint, keep the pad flush with the adjacent walk so casters do not catch, and pitch wash-down water away from the kitchen slider.
Gas, ash, and clearance
If the grill is natural-gas, we sleeve the line under the field before bedding sand goes down. Smoker pads get a slightly larger field so the lid can open without hanging over grass. We do not bury a grease drip into polymeric joints; a small removable tray zone or denser soldier band under the firebox keeps the field cleanable.
Add a grill pad to an existing patio
We can saw-cut a band into an existing Pinellas patio and rebuild just the appliance zone. Call 727-490-9798 with photos of the wall, slider, and current grill location.
