Building a Paver Landing at a New Impact-Rated Outswing Door
Impact-rated outswing doors sit higher and swing into the landing. The old paver stoop that worked with an inswing slider now clashes with the sill and the door panel. PaverForge Hardscapes rebuilds that landing so the door clears, the weather seal stays dry, and the first step is still a legal riser.
Sill height and swing arc
We measure the new sill, the required threshold gap, and the door arc before we lift units. The landing often drops one unit thickness or gets a wider top tread so the panel does not strike a planter or rail. Isolation from the house slab keeps the stoop from bonding to stucco that will crack when the lot moves.
Pitch is off the threshold, not toward it. A small slot drain or a steeper first two feet handles wind-driven rain that an outswing sees more of than a slider. Soldier-course sides hide the extra cut waste from the new radius.
Match the existing walk
If the walk beyond the landing stays, we re-key the joint with a band so the eye reads a planned change in plane. Leftover units from the original job get reserved for the visible faces; cuts hide under the door swing.
