Building a Pet-Wash Pad With a Trapped Drain in a Pinellas Side Yard
Rinsing a dog on the pool deck is how joint sand washes into the skimmer and how algae starts at the slider. A dedicated pet-wash pad in the side yard keeps shampoo and hair out of the patio field and gives the hose a place to live that is not the outdoor kitchen.
The pad is a small wet area: textured 60mm or 80mm units, a trapped drain or a pitched splash to a dry well, and a short knee wall or screen if the neighbor is eight feet away. We isolate it from the house stucco and from any screen-cage footer so rinse water does not travel along a cold joint into the living space.
What we build into a Pinellas pet-wash pad
Trapped drain or dry well — never a free sheet-flow onto the neighbor's sod.
Hose-bib splash basin so the faucet does not erode the bedding sand.
Slip-resistant texture; polished or glazed units do not belong here.
A place to hang a leash and a towel that is not the pool-cage kick plate.
Gulf lots get a rinse-off cousin of this pad near the outdoor shower. Inland lots usually want it by the garage so wet dogs are not walked through the house. Either way the joint product has to tolerate daily water — polymeric in a constantly wet basin is the wrong spec.
Send a side-yard photo and we will tell you whether a 4x6 pad fits between the AC pad and the fence. PaverForge Hardscapes · 727-490-9798 · PaverForge@gmail.com.
