Building a Pinellas Motor Court and Auto-Turn Pad
A Pinellas motor court looks like extra patio in the photo. Under the tires it is a turning field. Cars cut the same radius every day, and a 60 mm patio paver on dumped sand will roll the edge and open the joints by the first summer.
How we spec a court that lasts
We lay out the turning radius with the actual vehicles on the lot, not a catalog circle kit. The field is 80 mm interlocking units on a compacted aggregate base. The outer course is a soldier or sailor band that can be swapped after scuffs without opening the court. Joints lock after compaction. Pitch sheds to a drain or the street, not back to the garage slab.
On tight lots we often build a smaller auto-turn pad instead of a full court. That pad still gets driveway thickness, a pinned restraint, and a color blend that matches the existing drive so the addition does not read as a patch.
