Driveway Throat and Flare Geometry at Pinellas Street Aprons
The driveway throat is the pinch point where private pavers meet the city concrete apron. Get the width or the flares wrong and you grind the soldier course with every turn, dump stormwater into the neighbor, or build into the right-of-way. PaverForge Hardscapes lays that geometry out with string and the existing curb cut before excavation.
What the throat has to do
A two-car field that necks down too hard at the sidewalk forces both tracks onto the same pavers. A flare that is too generous steals parkway grass and can trip a city inspector. We measure the existing cut, the sidewalk cross-slope, and the garage door, then draw a throat that a sedan and an SUV can use without climbing the edge restraint.
Keep the public apron and curb profile; rebuild the private field to it
Pitch the last six feet so water does not pond at the sidewalk
Widen flares only where the turning radius actually needs it
Use a darker soldier course at the throat where tire scuffs concentrate
When the city apron is the problem
If the public concrete already reverse-pitches into the lot, we say so in the quote instead of hiding it under pavers. Some towns want a separate ROW permit for apron work. Call 727-490-9798 and we will flag that before you schedule. PaverForge handles throat and flare layout across Pinellas County.
