Dummy Joints Where Concrete Bands Meet Pinellas Paver Fields
Some Pinellas owners want a poured ribbon, a garage threshold band, or a light-colored concrete accent against a paver field. That band will crack. The only question is whether the crack is a planned dummy joint or a jagged line through the first row of pavers.
Where to cut
We score dummy joints at a depth of one-quarter the slab thickness, in line with soldier-course joints or at a door jamb, not mid-unit. Cuts happen the same day the band can take a saw, before the slab wants to shrink on its own schedule.
Bond break at the paver edge
The band does not get poured against a pinned plastic edge and hoped for the best. We isolate the pour from the paver field with a foam break or a tooled joint so summer expansion does not shove the first course. After cure, the paver edge restraint is pinned independently.
