Edge-Restraint Spike Spacing and Corner Pinning on Pinellas Paver Jobs
A paver field is only as stable as the restraint that holds the first course. On Pinellas lots the failure shows up as a soldier course that leans into the lawn after two summers of saturation and tire push. PaverForge Hardscapes treats spike spacing and corner pinning as a spec, not a leftover handful of nails.
What we pin and why
Plastic edge on a residential patio can work if spikes hit compacted base, not bedding sand. Driveways and pool decks get closer spacing at curves, throats, and outside corners. Coastal lots often get a salt-tolerant metal edge where plastic would fatigue.
Spikes driven into the compacted base lift, never into loose bedding
Tighter spacing on radii, driveway throats, and outside corners
Extra pins where a garden bed will be watered daily against the edge
Re-pin of storm-lifted restraint before we re-sand the joint
Repair versus replace
If only the first two courses have walked, we excavate the edge, reset restraint, and relay those units. If the base itself is pumping, the edge job is wasted without an undercut. Send an edge photo to PaverForge@gmail.com and we will tell you which case you have. Call 727-490-9798.
Edge pinning is part of every PaverForge install from St. Pete Beach through Clearwater, Largo, and Pinellas Park.
