Fireplace Hearth and Chimney-Chase Paver Returns Against the House
A pizza-oven pad in the yard is one job. A fireplace hearth and chimney-chase return against the house is another. The field has to stop short of the stucco, isolate from the slab so the two planes can move, and still look like one landing when you walk out the slider.
What the chase actually needs
Water that hits the chase must leave the wall, not sit in a joint against the weep screed. We hold a clean isolation joint at the slab, pitch the hearth away from the house, and use a micro-chamfer unit at the walking edge so the nosing is not a trip.
Isolation joint at the house slab and chase, never mortar-locked to stucco
Pitch off the wall so splash does not stain the first course of veneer
Service gap or removable soldier course where a future flue or gas shutoff sits
Non-combustible clearance honored; we do not bury a listed hearth rating under extra stone
