Flush Seawall Outfall Flap-Gate Collars
Canal lots in Pinellas often discharge yard drains and pool equipment through a seawall outfall with a flap gate. When the cap is later paved, a raised curb around that gate becomes a trip edge and a place for joint sand to wash out. A flush collar lets the flap swing and keeps the paver field continuous.
What the collar does
The collar is a restrained opening in the paver cap, set to the elevation of the seawall cap, with a clearance ring so the flap can open on an outgoing tide and close against backflow. It is not a repair of the seawall pipe. We coordinate the opening with the existing outfall and do not cut the cap tie rods.
How we set it
We mark the flap swing, cut the paver opening, restrain the cut edges, and set the collar so it sits flush with the walking surface. Pitch on the cap still runs off the wall. Polymeric sand stops at the collar so grit does not jam the flap.
