Garage Thresholds and Driveway Slope on Pinellas Lots
Most driveway complaints we see in Pinellas are not about color. They are about water at the garage door. The field was set to look level, or the new stone was stacked on a slab that already fell toward the house. Pavers do not fix a bad grade by themselves.
PaverForge Hardscapes starts every driveway quote at the threshold. We measure the finished floor, the existing slab, and the street. Then we decide whether the field can fall to the approach, whether a trench drain belongs at the door, or whether the job should not be built until the height problem is solved.
Rules we will not break
Do not raise the field so high the door scrapes or the car bottoms
Do not leave a lip that trips or holds a puddle against the weatherstrip
Do not sell a pretty pattern on a field that drains indoors
Do not skip the drain when the lot is lower than the street
When a drain is the honest answer
On beach fill and low mainland lots the street can sit above the garage. Gravity will not carry water out. A channel drain at the threshold, tied to a legal outfall or a dry well that the lot can actually accept, is cheaper than a flooded garage and a ruined door.
We quote that drain with the paver field so it is not an afterthought. If you already have pavers ponding at the door, we can often lift the first bays, correct the bedding, and add the drain without replacing the whole drive.
