House-to-Paver Expansion Joints on Pinellas Slabs

Every Pinellas patio that kisses the house has a movement joint, whether anyone named it or not. The slab and the paver field do not move the same way. If that line is packed with polymeric sand and hoped for, the sand cracks, the joint opens, and storm water finds the footer.

How we treat the house line

  • A planned gap, not pavers cut tight against stucco.

  • A backer and a flexible joint where the field meets masonry.

  • Pitch that starts at the wall and falls away — never a valley against the house.

  • A look at the drip edge and downspouts so roof water is not dumped on the joint.

Repair jobs we see

The usual failure is a patio that was set flat ‘so the furniture sits level’ and now holds a sheet of water at the slider. We pull the first few courses, rebuild the pitch, and recut the joint. Level furniture is a table-pad problem. Level water is a base problem.
