ICPI Tech Spec 2 Construction on Pinellas Sand Soils
ICPI Tech Spec 2 is the construction sequence for interlocking concrete pavement on an aggregate base. It is not a brand of stone. On Pinellas sand and crushed-concrete lots it is the difference between a field that locks and a field that waves after August rain.
The sequence we actually build
Subgrade is proof-rolled and undercut where organics show. Base is placed in lifts at optimum moisture and compacted. Bedding sand is a thin, even screed of concrete sand, not leftover mason sand. Pavers go down, the field is compacted, joints are filled, and the edge is restrained before the first storm.
Do not skip geotextile on sugar sand that will pump into the base
Do not use leftover concrete sand from a slab pour as bedding if it is dirty or gap-graded
Do not leave the edge open overnight on a driveway
Do not treat Tech Spec 2 as optional because the color is already approved
