Lime Rock vs Granite Base Under Pinellas Pavers
Homeowners in Pinellas argue color. Fields fail in the base. Lime rock and granite aggregate both show up on local jobs. Neither one saves a section that is too thin, poorly compacted, or sitting on raw sugar sand with no geotextile.
How we choose the stone
We spec a graded aggregate that will lock under a plate compactor, not a single-size dump that shifts after the first storm. On driveway loads we go deeper than a patio. On barrier-island lots we still compact; we do not skip the base because the yard is sand.
Patio loads get a compacted section sized for people and furniture, not cars
Driveways get more depth on the tire paths and a locked edge at the apron
Sugar-sand lots get geotextile so the base does not punch into the subgrade
The face paver does not replace any of that
Ask the contractor two questions
What will you compact, and how thick is it after compaction? If the answer is a sand bed and a prayer, keep walking. Call PaverForge Hardscapes at 727-490-9798 or book a walkthrough.
