Mid-Field Soldier Bands on Long Straight Pinellas Driveways
A 60-foot Pinellas driveway in one herringbone field looks clean on day one and starts to show a long wave after the first wet season. Mid-field soldier bands are not only a color trick. They are a construction joint you can see.
Why the band belongs in the middle
Thermal movement and slight base settlement add up over a long run. A soldier or sailor course keyed into the field lets each panel move a little without pushing the garage threshold or the city apron. A darker band also hides the tire path that bleaches the field color.
How we build it
Band units sit on the same bedding plane as the field so they do not become a trip edge.
We do not mortar the band on a sand-set driveway; it has to flex with the field.
On circular or auto-court lots the band follows the radius instead of cutting a straight scar across the turn.
PaverForge Hardscapes plans accent bands with the color board, not as an afterthought on the last pallet. Call 727-490-9798.
