Outdoor Kitchen Refrigerator Vent Recesses in a Paver Island

An under-counter outdoor refrigerator needs a vent path. On a paver kitchen island, the toe-kick grille or side vent is the part that gets buried when the island face is built tight to the cabinet.

What overheats

The compressor pulls air through that grille. Block it with a paver skirt, a polymeric-sand fillet, or a solid stone panel and the unit short-cycles. The pad under the cabinet also has to stay isolated so a later pull-out does not lift the cooking counter.

How we leave the vent open

We recess the grille in the island face, keep a clear air path, and set the refrigerator on its own pad. The paver field stops at the recess, not over it. Grease and rinse water get a pitch away from the vent, not into it.
