Paver Step Riser Light Recess Sleeves
Step lights in a paver stair look clean until the fixture fails and someone has mortared it into the riser. The right detail is a sleeve set before the tread and riser are locked, so the lamp can come out without a chisel.
Sleeve first, lamp second
We cut or form the recess in the riser course, set a sleeve that matches the fixture can, and leave a weep so irrigation and storm water do not stand in the box. Low-voltage cable is sleeved under the stair, not pinched in the bedding sand. Coastal lots get an amber lamp where turtle lighting rules apply.
The tread nosing still needs a contrasting edge so the step reads at night even if a lamp is out. Do not bury the driver or the junction in the paver field. A small access at the side of the stair, or in the adjacent planter wall, keeps the transformer serviceable.
PaverForge Hardscapes builds paver steps and these riser-light sleeves across Pinellas. Call 727-490-9798 when the stair and the lighting are being planned together.
