Paver Thickness Step-Down at a High Garage Slab Lip

Plenty of Pinellas garages sit a full paver thickness above the old concrete drive. If you run 80 mm units to that lip without a step-down, the first row becomes a trip edge or the field has to dish just to meet the slab.

Two-thickness transition

We set a 60 mm or soldier-course band at the threshold, bed it on a mortar or high-strength setting bed, and step to the 80 mm field after the first full row. The garage weatherstrip still seats, and the driveway keeps its two-percent pitch to the street.

Where the slab itself is out of level, we do not grind the homeowner’s garage floor. The transition band takes the difference and a contrasting border hides the thickness change so it reads as a design line, not a patch.

Measure the lip before you order pallets

A photo with a tape on the slab lip is enough to spec the band. PaverForge Hardscapes will tell you whether the existing apron can stay or the whole throat has to come out. Call 727-490-9798.
