Pavers vs Asphalt Driveways in Pinellas County
Most Pinellas driveway calls start as a comparison between a new asphalt overlay and a paver field. Heat, standing water, and salt air change that comparison. An overlay that looks cheap on day one can alligator in two summers. A paver field with no base is not a bargain either.
PaverForge Hardscapes installs and re-levels pavers from St. Pete Beach across south and mid Pinellas. We do not pour asphalt. We will still tell you when asphalt is the honest answer so you are not sold a field you do not need.
Where pavers usually win on a Pinellas lot
Repair is local. A settled section can be lifted and reset instead of overlaying the whole drive
Heat. Dark asphalt holds more afternoon heat than a lighter concrete paver
Edges and aprons. A restrained paver field can meet a city approach without a crumbling lip
Looks that can be matched later if you widen the drive or add a walk
Where asphalt can still be the right call
A long, low-visibility service drive or a rental property with a short hold period can be a better asphalt job. If the base is already failed and the budget cannot support excavation, an overlay is a delay, not a fix. We will say that on the walkthrough.
What to ask before you pick a surface
What gets excavated, and how deep?
Where does the water go after a summer storm?
What happens when one section settles in year three?

If you are comparing pavers to a concrete slab instead, read our pavers vs concrete guide. The drainage question is the same. The repair path is not.
