Protecting Existing Pavers During a Pinellas Reroof or Dumpster Drop

The fastest way to ruin a five-year-old paver driveway in Pinellas is to drop a 20-yard dumpster on it for a reroof. Point loads punch through the bedding sand. The base does not fail everywhere — it fails in two rectangles the exact size of the dumpster feet.

Before the dumpster arrives

If the field is ours and the roofers have not staged yet, we can lay protection: plywood over a compressible layer, load spreaders under the dumpster feet, and a marked path so the roll-off does not crab-steer across the herringbone. That is cheaper than a mid-field rebuild.

  • Never let a dumpster sit on an unprotected patio field

  • Keep the roll-off on the street or on a sacrificial pad if the city allows it

  • Do not drag lumber packages across polymeric joints

  • Photograph the field the morning before the dumpster lands

After the damage

If the stones are already dished, we pull the damaged area, rebuild the base in lifts, and re-lay the same pattern. A surface reset on a punched base comes back in one summer. Matching color on a 10-year faded field may need extra pulled stones from a hidden edge, not a brand-new pallet.
