Re-Keying a Driveway to a New City Apron After a Utility Cut
A water-main or gas-service cut often ends with a new concrete apron at the sidewalk. The private paver field on your side of the property line is now an inch high, an inch low, or no longer in the same plane as the public slab. Driving across that lip every day chips the first row and sends stormwater sideways into the neighbor.
Do not grind the city slab to save the old field
The apron belongs to the city or the county. We do not grind it to match a settled private field. We lift the first several feet of the driveway, reset the compacted base to the new apron elevation, and rebuild a soldier course that can take the wheel load at the joint. If the rest of the field is still good, that is a repair band, not a full tear-out.
Where the utility trench itself crosses the private field, we undercut the poorly compacted backfill and rebuild that strip to the same section as the rest of the drive. Leaving the trench as the city left it is why those bands settle six months later.
After the orange paint is gone
If a utility just recut your throat, send a photo of the new apron against the first paver row. Call 727-490-9798 or book at paverforge.com/book-online. PaverForge Hardscapes re-keys aprons across St. Pete Beach, St. Petersburg, Largo, and unincorporated Pinellas.
