Rebuilding a Driveway After a Water-Service Upsize and New Meter Setter
Pinellas utilities upsize 3/4-inch services to 1-inch when a house adds a pool or irrigation. The crew cuts a trench from the meter to the house, sets a taller meter setter, and backfills with whatever spoil is on the truck. Six months later the paver field has a linear dip and the meter lid sits proud of the joint sand.
What we rebuild, and what we leave alone
The public meter and the setter itself belong to the utility. We do not reset their hardware. We do rebuild the private field around the grade ring, compact the trench in lifts, and bring the pavers back to the original crown or one-way pitch.
Remove units along the trench plus one full course on each side so the patch is not a single-file zipper.
Undercut loose spoil to firm material; replace with crushed concrete in 3- to 4-inch lifts.
Set a grade ring so the lid finishes flush with the paver surface, not with the bedding sand.
Color-match from the leftover repair pallet or a current run of the same unit; never drop one new pallet into an old field without blending.
Timing
Wait until the utility has signed the trench off. Then call 727-490-9798. PaverForge Hardscapes photographs the setter, the throat, and the garage lip so the rebuilt bay does not create a new trip at either end.
