Rebuilding a Paver Driveway After a Sewer-Lateral Replacement
Pinellas sewer laterals get replaced when roots close the clay or when a sale inspection fails. The plumber cuts a trench from the cleanout to the street. If the driveway is pavers, that trench is an opportunity: lift the units, do the pipe work, and rebuild the section so it does not settle six months later.
PaverForge Hardscapes handles the hardscape side of that sequence. We are not the plumber. We are the crew that keeps the field flat after the pipe is in.
The trench is not a base
Pipe bedding and pea gravel are not driveway base. If the plumber backfills with native sand and walks away, the trench will dish. We over-excavate the pipe zone to a stable shoulder, wrap mixed soils in geotextile, and compact crushed concrete in thin lifts. Proof-roll before any bedding sand goes down.
At the cleanout we set a grade ring so the lid finishes flush with the field. A proud cleanout becomes a trip and a mower hazard. A sunken one collects joint sand and ants.
Matching the existing field
Lifted units go back in the same order when they are sound. Broken units come from the labeled repair pallet or from a blended new lot. We run a soldier-course or mid-field band across the trench so a slight color shift reads as a design line instead of a patch.
Photograph the field before the plumber cuts.
Keep polymeric sand off the trench until the backfill has taken rain and been re-checked.
Re-pin edge restraint where the trench crossed the driveway edge.
Leave the owner the leftover units from the blend.
