Replacing Rusted Steel Landscape Edging with Pinned Paver Restraint

Thin steel landscape edging looks finished on day one and then rusts, lifts, and lets the first course walk. On a Pinellas driveway that is a drainage and trip problem, not a cosmetic one. PaverForge Hardscapes pulls the failed steel and resets a restraint that can be pinned through the base.

Call 727-490-9798 if a soldier course is leaning into the sod or rocking under a tire.

Why the steel fails here

Salt air, irrigation overspray, and wet sand accelerate rust. Once the spike line lets go, polymeric sand in the first joint washes and the field opens from the edge inward.

  • Lift the border course and inspect the base under the edge

  • Replace rusted steel with a restraint rated for paver fields, not flower beds

  • Pin corners and curves tighter than the mid-run

  • Re-sand and compact so the new edge locks to the field

We do not glue a new strip on top of rotten steel. If the first two feet of base are soft, that pocket gets rebuilt before the restraint goes back in.
