Root Barriers Under Pinellas Paver Driveways
Live oaks, mahogany, and ficus send surface roots under a thin paver base. The field looks fine for two seasons, then a wheel path humps and the soldier course opens. PaverForge Hardscapes installs a vertical root barrier when the tree is staying and the driveway has to stay too.
When a barrier is the right repair
If the tree is protected, healthy, and inside the setback, cutting every root is a bad plan. We lift the heaved units, trench a line between the trunk flare and the wheel path, set a commercial barrier panel with the lock at the top, backfill in lifts, and reset the same pavers. The goal is to turn new roots down, not to girdle the tree.
Barrier depth matched to the species and the base thickness
Trench kept off major structural roots when an arborist flags them
Geotextile and extra base where the old root mass left a void
A joint line that can be opened later if the tree still wins
What a barrier will not do
A barrier will not save a driveway that was set on raw sand with no geotextile. We still rebuild the section. And if the trunk is already lifting the garage slab, the conversation is about the tree, not only the pavers. We will say that on the walk-through.
