Setting a Narrow Side-Yard Bike and Kayak Rack Pad in Pinellas
Beach-town lots in St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, and Gulfport rarely have a garage bay to spare. Bikes and kayaks end up on the grass strip between the house and the neighbor fence, which then becomes a mud trench. A narrow paver pad gives them a home without widening the driveway into the setback.
Width, pitch, and the fence
We hold the pad off the fence enough to set a pinned restraint and still open a gate. Pitch runs to the front or to a small catch, never toward the house slab. If the side yard already has a downspout, the pad gets a gap or a channel so roof water does not sheet across the rack.
60mm units are enough for foot and bike loads; use 80mm if a car will ever nose onto the pad.
Rack post sleeves go in before joint sand so you are not coring a finished field.
Keep the driveway transition a full soldier course, not a diagonal cut that will chip under a tire.
HOA lots: photograph the side yard before and after; many packets only show the front elevation.
This is a one- or two-day add-on next to a driveway rebuild, or a stand-alone visit. Call PaverForge Hardscapes at 727-490-9798 with the clear width between house and fence.
