Setting a Pet-Door Threshold Sleeve Through a Finished Pinellas Patio
A wall-mounted pet door that opens onto a Pinellas patio fails in two ways: the flap drags on a proud paver, or the landing ponds against the slab and wicks under the door. Both are layout problems, not product problems.
How we detail the landing
We set a small flush pad or a soldier-course landing at the flap so the unit clears the field after polymeric lock-up. The pad is isolated from the house slab with a bond-breaker so seasonal movement does not crack the threshold. Pitch still leaves the opening — we do not flatten the patio to make the door look level.
If the patio is already finished, we lift a tight rectangle, correct the bedding, and reset matching units rather than tearing the whole field. Joint sand at the sleeve is packed so wash from the flap does not open a channel in the first storm.
