Setting a Pool-Heater Exhaust Clearance Pad Against a Pinellas Screen Cage

Pool heaters on Pinellas cages need combustion clearance from vinyl and from the walking deck. Setting the heater on the same sand-set field as the patio lets heat and condensate travel through the joints and stains the cage kick plate. PaverForge Hardscapes builds a small isolated pad with a bond-breaker at the cage footer and a clear exhaust path.

Pad versus field

The pad is a separate compacted base, often a thicker crushed-concrete section, with its own pinned edge. A bond-breaker keeps heater vibration and thermal growth from telegraphing into the patio. Condensate is trenched to daylight or to an approved drain, not dumped on the polymeric joints.

We coordinate with the pool contractor on flue direction, gas-stub height, and service access. A 36-inch service aisle stays in pavers that can be lifted without moving the heater. Salt-cell and heater electrical bonding stay reachable through a flush plate, not buried under units.

Screen-cage sequencing

If the cage is already standing, we work through a screened bay and protect the kick plate. If the cage is new, the pad and isolation joint go in before the footer inspection whenever the pool schedule allows. Either way the patio pitch still falls to the yard, not back to the sliders.

PaverForge Hardscapes builds this detail with new pool decks and as a repair when an old heater pad was poured tight to the cage. Call 727-490-9798.
