Setting a Rain-Sensor and Irrigation Weather-Station Pedestal Pad
Smart irrigation in Pinellas only saves water if the rain sensor or weather station can see the sky and stay plumb. Mulch beds bury the pedestal, eaves drip on the solar cell, and a later patio crew will treat the stake as landscape junk. PaverForge Hardscapes sets a small isolated paver pad so the instrument stays level and serviceable.
Siting the pad
The pad belongs in the open, clear of rotor spray and the house drip line, with a conduit sleeve from the controller before the field is sanded. We use the same crushed-concrete base as a walk, just in a two-by-two or two-by-three pocket, and we pitch the surface so the pedestal base does not stand in a puddle after a cloudburst.
Retrofit on an existing walk
If the sensor is already leaning in a bed next to a finished walk, we can cut two units, set a sleeve, and rebuild a flush pad without opening the whole patio. Bring the irrigation contractor in the same week so the wire is not spliced in wet sand. Call PaverForge Hardscapes at 727-490-9798.
This is a one-visit detail on most Pinellas lots and it keeps the controller from watering through a three-inch rain because the sensor drowned in mulch.
