Setting Screen-Cage Hurricane-Anchor Plates in a Finished Pinellas Deck
Pinellas screen cages increasingly pick up discrete hurricane hold-down plates at post bases. Dropping those plates into a finished paver field without a plan leaves a proud steel square and a cracked soldier course after the first storm season. PaverForge Hardscapes builds a small isolated pocket for each plate so the cage contractor can torque hardware and the deck still walks flush.
Plate before the last course
We want the cage layout before final bedding. Each plate gets a compacted pad, a bond-breaker at the footer, and a cut ring that can be lifted later if the hardware is replaced. The walking surface stays at the same elevation as the field. No mortar fillet that will spall off the plate in salt air.
What we will not do
We will not bury a plate under polymeric sand and hope the next inspection ignores it. We will not notch an 80mm unit so thin that it snaps under a chair leg. If the cage contractor moves a post, we reset the pocket rather than stretching the steel into the wrong bay.
Bring the cage shop drawings
Post spacing and plate size drive the pocket. Email the drawings with a photo of the existing deck. PaverForge Hardscapes will set the pockets, then finish the field. Call 727-490-9798.
