Side-Load Garage Trench Drains at the Threshold in Pinellas
A side-load garage turns the driveway into a long, narrow chute. Rain that used to sheet down a front-facing apron now runs the length of the field and stacks against the garage door. A hump at the threshold scrapes the weather seal. A trench drain set flush with the pavers is the cleaner fix.
Where the drain actually belongs
The channel sits just outside the door swing, not under the weather seal and not a full paver course into the field. We isolate the frame from the house slab so the drain can settle a hair without cracking stucco. Outlet piping ties to a pop-up, dry well, or the yard swale — never into the neighbor's yard or a septic drain field.
Heel-proof grates and paver cuts
At a house entry we use a heel-proof grate so heels and pet paws do not catch. Pavers are cut to the frame, not butted raw against plastic. The first course beyond the drain is a soldier band so a future grate swap does not chew into the field pattern.
What we need from you
Measure the garage-slab lip, note whether the door seal already rubs, and photo the low corner after a storm. We will tell you if a trench drain, a catch basin mid-field, or a simple re-pitch is the smaller repair.
