Swale and Roadside Ditch Crossings on Pinellas Paver Driveways
Plenty of Pinellas lots still drain to a roadside swale or a shallow mosquito-control ditch. A driveway that fills that swale with base rock turns the neighbor's yard into a pond and can fail a county or city inspection.
Crossing details that last
We keep the conveyance section open with a properly sized culvert or a stabilized ford, then build the paver field on a compacted approach that does not ravel into the ditch. Headwalls stay low so mowers and mail trucks can pass, and the first soldier course sits on restrained base, not on the pipe backfill.
Where an existing pipe is crushed or set too high, we reset invert elevations before we touch the pretty field. A beautiful herringbone that dams a swale is still a failed drainage job.
Culvert size and invert, not guesswork
Compacted approaches off pipe backfill
Keep swale flow to the legal outfall
Edge restraint that does not kick into the ditch
