Widening a Paver Driveway in Pinellas Without a Visible Seam
A lot of Pinellas driveways were built for one car and now need two. Adding a bay looks simple until the new stone sits on a different base than the old field, the joint opens, and the whole edge starts to creep.
PaverForge Hardscapes widens paver driveways from St. Pete Beach across south and mid Pinellas. We plan the match and the base before we order pallets. Call 727-490-9798 or book a walkthrough at paverforge.com/book-online.
Why widenings fail
The old field is often sitting on a thin sand bed. The new bay gets a proper aggregate base. After one wet season the two sides move differently. Color mismatch makes that movement obvious. Irrigation and tree roots finish the job.
The new bay needs the same compacted base depth as a full driveway, not a patio spec
We decide on site whether to lift and re-bed the old field so both sides share one plane
Matching existing pavers is a hunt, not a catalog click. Some colors are gone
The edge restraint has to be rebuilt, not butted against the old plastic strip
What a widening quote includes
A walk of the existing field to see if the stone is still sound
A match plan, including when a blend will look honest instead of invisible
Base, pitch, and apron details for the new width
Haul-off and staging on tight beach and mid-county lots
If a quote only prices square footage of new stone, it is not a widening quote. Ask where the joint goes and what happens to the old base.
How to start
Call PaverForge Hardscapes at 727-490-9798 or use the book-online page. Send photos of the full driveway, both edges, and the street apron. We typically reply the same business day and walk the lot before we lock a number.
