Working Around Live-Oak Root Plates Under Pinellas Driveways

Live oaks carry Pinellas streets and they also wreck thin paver fields. Cutting a major root to make the plate disappear is how you lose the tree and still get a dip two seasons later. PaverForge Hardscapes plans the driveway around the plate.

How we treat the plate

  • Map roots at excavation instead of guessing from the canopy

  • Undercut only the pocket that is already pumping fines

  • Geotextile and extra base where the plate is close but still stable

  • A field that can be lifted later in that bay without a full tear-out

Some lots need a slightly raised band or a curve in the border so the main roots stay. That is a layout decision on day one, not a surprise after the first course is set.

If the tree is already in decline or the plate has lifted the garage slab, we say so before quoting a pretty overlay.
