Woven vs Nonwoven Geotextile Under Pinellas Paver Bases
Pinellas sand looks clean until traffic pumps fines into the crushed base. A geotextile is the cheap insurance that keeps those layers apart. The wrong fabric, or fabric with wrinkles and overlaps that do not lap, is just plastic in the hole.
PaverForge Hardscapes picks woven or nonwoven from the subgrade we actually uncover, not from a catalog default. Call 727-490-9798.
What each fabric is for
Woven slit-film geotextile is a separator and stabilizer on loose sand. It keeps crushed concrete from punching into the native soil. Nonwoven needle-punched fabric is the better filter when water has to move and fines have to stay put — muck undercuts, rain-garden edges, and some PICP sections.
Proof-roll first. Fabric does not fix a pumping organic pocket; undercut does
Lap seams and keep wrinkles out so the plate does not fold the sheet
Do not use a lightweight landscape weed barrier as a base fabric
PICP and open-graded sections need a filter fabric the stone will not clog
How this shows up in a quote
If the excavation changes after we open the hole, the fabric spec can change with it. That is a documented field decision, not a surprise add-on on closeout day.
